Day Retreat - “Decided Love”, Saturday, October 10 in West Boylston, MA

Join us in-person or online for our Fall Retreat, sponsored by the Abbey’s Followers of The Way.

Once again we will meet at the country home of Dave and Andrea Gordon in West Boylston, MA, a former farm with a generous meeting room and places indoors and outside to rest.

Love is a Decision. Psychologist Erich Fromm coined this phrase in his 1956 Book, The Art of Loving. What does it mean for us to decide to love, as described in 1 Corinthians 13, the “Love” chapter of the Bible? We’ll consider the priority of love in our personal lives, as well as the personal and corporate practices that we need to make for that priority to be evident.

The Retreat will be offered onsite at 98 Prospect Street. For parking, but pull into the driveway at 84 Prospect Street and follow the road around to the left. Park along the barn and yard at the driveway’s end. As usual, the Retreat will also be offered online at www.tinyurl.com/zoomtheabbey. Those wishing to stay overnight at The Abbey, either Friday or Saturday, can inquire. To register, email Father Len Cowan at fatherlen@abbeyoftheway.org. Registration will be $25 for the day (or $50 if staying overnight), plus $10 for lunch (and $8 for breakfast). Payment can be made at the Retreat or via the Donation block on the Abbey website (www.abbeyoftheway.us). For those registering online through donation, please also send an email to fatherlen@abbeyoftheway.us to notify us of the Registration.

Weekday Prayer Gatherings

Worcester City Prayer, second Mondays from 12:30 - 1:15PM

This monthly gathering meets to ask for God’s blessing on our city and region. We meet in-person in the Worcester Mayor’s Office on the 3rd floor of City Hall at 455 Main Street. We also offer a Zoom option at www.tinyurl.com/zoomtheabbey.

Worcester Revival Prayer, every Tuesday from 7-8 AM

This weekly gathering, hosted by The Abbey, is for those wanting to pray for God to awaken His Church and revive this lost culture and its people. Join us in-person at The Abbey of The Way, 48 Berwick Street in Worcester, or online at www.tinyurl.com/zoomtheabbey.

Monastic “Daily Office” Prayer Weekdays

These online gatherings of 15-30 minutes feature a hymn, song, or image, prayers from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, a Scripture reading, and time to reflect in quiet and pray aloud together. Using the Daily Office 2019 website (www.dailyoffice2019.com) and the St. Bernard Breviary (https://www.bernardillos.org/breviary), we come together to pray the seven classic monastic hours of prayer. All of these will provide a gentle and reassuring practice for centering on Jesus throughout the day and night, and for advancing The Kingdom of God locally and worldwide. Join us for one, several, or all on Zoom at www.tinyurl.com/zoomtheabbey. If you wish to join the Abbot for prayer at The Abbey House, 48 Berwick Street, Worcester, please either text him at 508-579-3442, or email him at fatherlen@abbeyoftheway.us to make sure he is in residence.

Vigils (3AM) offers a time to pray in the stillness and to help those who have trouble sleeping.

Morning Prayer (8AM) is a powerful way to dedicate one’s day to The Lord with Scripture, song, and a message.

Terce (10AM) is a time to reconnect with The Lord mid-morning, when one’s work gets focused.

Midday Prayer i(Noon) interrupts our work and plans, reminding us of Who is in charge, and features a hymn plus a reflection on how it was composed.

None (3PM) draws us back to The Lord as the day’s work begins to close, and features a reading from the saints of the early church.

Evening Prayer (7PM) is designed particularly to be accessible to children, in case families wish to use this gathering as part of bedtime practices.

Compline Prayer (9PM) is especially helpful to prepare oneself for rest and sleep.
